This question is for those who use PayPal subscriptions to sell an online service.

When you have subscription periods of 6-months, 12-months, etc., do you have any problems with customers complaining you didn't notify them before the automated charge? Does PayPal send out any sort of warning reminder to your subscribers to let them know their subscription payment date is coming soon?

No

I use a notice at the bottom of the page that says the follwing:

"Validity periods marked with a * indicate the subscription is recurring. This means after the period is complete it will automatically be renewed."

You could always set a cronjob for a mass email send out for whoever is subscribed to your service.

Warning: Unless your server is optimized for bulk mail send out, ignore the above advice.

You would be better off with something like Constant Contact, Vertical Response, Aweber, or the likes where you have access to a fully managed email platform.

Paypal gives notice to subscribers via e-mail notification after they charge the buyer for a recurring payment. They don't notify or send reminder to subscriber that payment is coming soon. So it's the merchant's sole responsibility to send notice prior to payment date scheduled.

that's what i know....
