Ecommerce solution for Australian site?

My wife has been running an eBay store for a while now and would like to create her own ecommerce site. I had a look at Oscommerce and as I understand it there are add-on modules available to customize it for an Australian store, but we found changing the design fairly unpleasant.

Others we looked at either cost hundreds of dollars, required monthly fees, or a % of each transaction -- and in some cases all three. This is a hobby that's slowly growing into a small business, so we were hoping we wouldn't have to spend a fortune just to take the next step beyond eBay.

Any suggestions?

I use ecommercetemplates + Verisign. One off and very small charge to purchase the storefront, and can choose from various models.

Checkout eMartCart. I know this is used by Australian retailers but I don't know if it has all of the plugins that you need. It works with Verisign, Authorize.net and PayPal. There is a Lite service that is free if you have less than 25 products and less than something like 40 sales per month. After that there is a small monthly fee and there are upgrades to the service available that also have a monthly fee. It is good for starting out and then pay for features you want as your hobby grows into a business.

good luck

Have a look at Comersus I find the software easy to use and totally customisable to the look and feel of a website it is also free to download the basic version as it is open source and I have found the support very helpful.

Thanks for all the suggestions! :)

I'll definately be taking a look at everything that was mentioned, plus a few others I've found in the last few days.

There are also some third party processing companies that have a standard order page template which you can customise and add products to. I think most 3PP offer this feature.

Then you would have all your products listed and have the credit card facility as well.
