I'm running a couple of ecommerce sites, one for about a year, another for a few months. I am currently relying on organic traffic and Google Base for visitors.
I haven't started using Adwords or other paid traffic as I am a cheapskate, and don't think I could get a good ROI with my profit margins.
I was wondering how many/any other people run purely organic ecommerce sites. Am I crazy?

I guess I'll just have to jump in at some point, I will bear in mind some of the things that came up here. I'm really tight with money so will hopefully find a way for maximum ROI.
My visitor number are pretty low so it would be a good way to test if my checkout procedure is any good.
What I'm going to check before I start are:-
Checkout looks good
Landing Pages
Find cheap longtail keywords
Negative keywords
Any other suggestions, let me know.
Is the conversion rate generally higher for paid ads? I guess the people who click on them must have a specific interest in buying.
My current conversion rate is only a few percent, but maybe the content bringing people in isn't optimal for generating sales.
I feel all warm inside being featured on the homepage!
