Has anyone tried creating a Facebook and/or MySpace "page" (is that what they call them?) to promote your online store? It looks like they both have store applications:

http://www.sortprice.com/facebook_store/

http://www.myspace.com/shopitstore

My store's demographic is college kids so I think it would be a good fit.

Someone must have tried this. How does it work out?

Sorry Tonearm, your post has made their e-store apps news to me!

However, I may be able to add some insight (or compound your confusion...). I know that on Facebook (I'm a recent college grad) you can now store financial details such as credit card info in order to send people 'gifts' of items to post on their 'wall.' Facebook pages for individuals are referred to as 'walls' and 'profiles', dunno much about MySpace, sorry!

In any case, with the advent of the ability to keep credit card info on file for one-click purchasing of 'gifts' on Facebook, I imagine some sort of store front is necessary. What I do not know, unfortunately, is if you can yet purchase goods on Facebook -- what the sortprice.com page seems to say is that you can use their app to set-up a profile for your company and list it on facebook. That's not a novel idea at all...it's literally just signing your business up for a Facebook account. Old news if that's all they are helping you do.

The e-store apps do sound interesting, but I'm also interested in the "old news" of "signing your business up for a Facebook account." Has anyone tried that?

I don't know if it is just the people who use MySpace or the nature of the product but I have recently looked at several pages, for bands and music venues rather than ecommerce, and the expression "car crash" comes to mind when describing the layout.
