Hi Guys,

Is anyone aware of a content management system/hosted solution for an ecommerce site that will allow customers to data enter their products into my website’s database? That is, the customer can log in with their browser and add products to my website.

Thanks in advance,

Jon

You could use user access permissions to allow them to add items and link that up with the drupal ecommerce package or a joomla store setup. I'm not sure a CMS is the way to go. Are you sure you wouldn't want just a shopping cart where you can provide some level of granular access?

Thanks once again ergophobe.

I had no idea that shopping carts had this kind of functionality.

So, once my customers have entered their product range, would a shopping cart also allow me to withhold their ability to publish the products to the site?

That is, I'd like to be the one who hits publish on their product offering after I've done my quality control on their data entry.

I don't really know. Hopefully some of the folks in ecommerce will know about it.

That sounds like you're looking for a mall setup where multiple vendors can add products to their "store" but the whole shebang is on your webserver. Are the stores tied together under one interface or are the completely seperated accessable via different URLs only?

BTW - welcome to WebmasterWorld!

Thanks for the welcome and help, Lorax. Hope that the New Year is treating you well. An online mall is exactly what I'm after - all the products would end up on the one website (URL).

As to the interface, the only fundamental requirement that I would have is that each vendor has their own login and can access only their own product range.

Do you know if anything like this is available off the shelf?

Take a look at X-Cart. It's one of several products available. You could also do a Google search on multiple store shopping carts [google.com].

Thanks, Lorax. I'll check the X-Cart out.
