SSL for multiple domains

I need to implement SSL for multiple related domains (e.g. www.widgets.com, www.widgets.co.uk, www.widgets.fr etc.).

I was planning on buying an SSL certificate for each domain through Godaddy. However, I noticed that Godaddy also offers a "Multiple Domain (UCC?)" certificate, which apparently can accommodate more than one domain.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the UCC certificate? Is it appropriate for an e-commerce business with multiple geo-targeted domains?

Welcome to WebmasterWorld!

I've never used a this sort of SSL Cert. The only concern I have is if I were trying to keep people from identifying the connection between the stores.

Usually an SSL cert is issued to www.example.com (or example.com). There are some certs that are known as "wildcard" that is issued to *.example, although some browsers will issue a warning on these from time to time.

When it comes to an SSL cert, this is one of those items that you do not want to be stingy on. I remember that GoDaddy had problems a long time ago with their CA, but it seems these problems have been addressed.

You might check to see if Comodo can offer you a discount on multiple SSL certs when purchased. Even if you break down the UCC price for up to 5 domains for $90.00, that's about $18.00. You can look into getting SSL certs that are about that same price especially if you can generate your own CSR
