I develop a site for a company that sells books, CDs, DVDs and some other supplies in a very specific niche (think eastern religions)
Some of the audio cd's they sell could be made available as file downloads thus making the delivery quicker and easier, and so they want me to look at adding such a thing to their store (custom SQL / ASP)
I have expressed some doubts about this - partly because I will have to build the engine to deliver / validate things from scratch, and also partly because they do not process payments at point of order, so if someone orders a download when they are closed, they will not be charged for it (and therefore sent the link) until the next time they do a charging run - not really the idea behind downloads!
So has anyone got any advice on best way forward - I'd be happy to push them towards 3rd party solution, but preferably if we can make it look a little like the existing site, and deep link into the particular download from a "product" page on the existing site - if that makes sense.
Thanks as ever.
Chris
Now having said that, the gateway will provide some good information in vetting the transaction and you might consider using GeoIP to help get the download immediately.
Payloadz and Share-It have a couple of options available. Adding it though should not be too difficult - a special link is generated for the download and expires maybe aftre 5 days to 3 downloads.
