White Label PayPal Credit Card Processing?

Possible?

Let's get this out of the way: Personally, I like PayPal and if a site offers it as an option I'll use it. It seems safer than Joe the Webmaster saving my info to his hard drive, printing it out, etc ;) Also, many people don't know that you can pay through PayPal even without a PayPal account - just by using your card. For this reason I think PP is a great solution for many sites. However, some clients / people think it looks unprofessional and there is definitely confusion among users who don't realize you can pay with a CC through PayPal without an account.

Anyway, on to the question. To avoid the confusion is it possible to have a "White Label" PayPal processing method? I.e. I collect the info in a form on my site and send it off, encrypted to PayPal, who sends a response with the status back - similar to what I've used with Authorize.net, etc. But the user never leaves my domain.

Has anyone done this? Any PHP examples?

No, it's not entirely possible. PayPal does offer it's "Website Payments Pro" solution in the US, Canada, and UK, allowing customers to stay on your domain name throughout the checkout process, but charges on a customers' credit card statement will clearly say "PayPal: <yourWebsite.com>", so the "PayPal" element will still be there.

Thanks jwolthuis. That may solve the issue though. The biggest issues are the confusion that one can pay with a CC through PayPal without a PayPal account, plus the concern over leaving the merchant's domain. Sounds like the Website Payments Pro option would eliminate both of those. Thanks.

Here's the link for more info on Pro for reference. [paypal.com]

Paypal also offers / owns Payflow (electronic payment gateway). This might be another option as well. Most companies now offer a way for users to pay through Paypal or pay on the merchant's website using an electronic payment gateway.

You might check to see if you can offer both, the option for buyers to pay on your site and for buyers to pay on Paypal.

Personally, I won't buy anything from a company that just has Paypal and you will find other people that will only use Paypal. Offering both will usually open a few more avenues.

We use the WebSite Payments Pro (UK) system. It is extremely good and 100% reliable so far.

When customer pays by credit card there is no mention of PayPal on the card statement. You actually get to chose your own 11 character statement wording.

If you have PayPal Website Payments Pro (and Virtual Terminal too) "PayPal" does **NOT** show anywhere on the transaction including the customer's statement.

We regularly test our sites with a completed small transaction and it always has our store name on my CC statement.

PP allows you to set what is displayed on the customer's statement via your profile settings.
