sadly this lad only got 1 year ..........
[news.bbc.co.uk...]

sadly his scam was allowed to continue for some time .......

i've seen lots of scams on ebay so i never buy anything from there ..........

i know lots of businesses take credit cards using their own SSL certificate and email the card numbers in plain text, or leave them stored in plain text on the web server - it's no wonder there's so much credit card fraud ........

i only ever buy from companies using secure systems with real time online processing (worldpay / 2co etc), and where there the business doesn't see or store the card numbers .......

I saw that too in teh Daily Telegraph the thing that made me laugh was he is now married and expecting a child.

Some fool representing said that 'he now looked forward to the stabillity that marriage and fatherhood will bring'.

Yeah right.

With no education and a criminal record he'll go far.

I was scammed out of $1000 on eBay earlier this year. Despite a number of complaints with proof provided, they have not done anything about it and the person is still selling on eBay.

Have you contacted the Better Business Bureau about it? I have used them several times, and they work.

Ouff I sell a lot of stuff on Ebay and on other auction sites, wonder if his conviction and all the publicity is bad for business.

What I'm most upset about is that he has really made it worse for all companies trying to sell goods on Ebay.

Anyway I have had a lot of good experiences on Ebay and other sites. Only been ripped off once, and that was when I was just starting out.

Exactly!

I've used ebay many times and never got scammed. It's no different than real life. If the deal seems too good to be true - it is! Many people get lured into buying goods, just because they seem to be really good and cheap. Don't be fooled by descriptions and the price of the product.

Look at the ratings, at the comments, do some other research online in your fav search engine. There is only a small chance to get scammed if you play smart.

In offline life people don't buy expensive products from a total stranger on a street, do they? Usually if one wants to make a big purchase they do some research first. See what is good and suits them best. What stores are better than the others. Ask their friends, etc...

eBay is designed for spontaneous purchases. Be careful.
