I have had two clients telling me that they can't order because Paypal says that their card in not good. Not that it's been declined just not valid.

One client tried 5 cards and were all not valid. Is there a new problem with Paypal processing

I can't confirm any unusual problems with Paypal here. The normal usability problems, but no technical issues.

However a guy with five credit cards would certainly ring a few alarm bells with me.

I had this problem myself a few weeks back when using PayPal on Ebay. It was asking for the expiry date and security code for verification, but it just wouldn't accept my (right) answers.

In the end I logged into my PayPal account, removed the card and added it again. It then let me pay for goods, bizarre. Thought it was just me.

With most accounts being card based these days having five credit or debit cards isn't too outlandish.

I don't use PP but I have had more reports than usual of people having difficulties on my site recently. I had just put it down to people being confused by Mastercard Secure Code and Verified by Visa.

More clients have called in with the same message (card not valid) but processing it through Paypal vertual terminal it authorises OK.

I am using Paypal Standard but have signed up for Virtual terminal

It appears that the client which I authorised via virtual terminal was charged a $1.00 paypal fee. Paypal is not suppose to charge such a fee so I wonder if it's the credit card issuer who is charging it. If so a bunch of people will be issued cards which they can't purchase anything on paypal. This is probably the reason it was declared a non valid card.

I know nothing about PP as I use a different processor. One thing that I have come across though with another emoney service is card issuers regarding payments as cash advances because technically the money is credited to the payees account and forwarded rather than being paid direct. Could that be the reason for the fee?

I am sure that card issuers will be looking for technicalities to justify more charges in the current financial environment.
