How to get people to upload images?

Hi,

We've set up a gallery to show all uses of widgettes (slightly smaller than the standard widget). We're after all photos - to build an online history of widgettes. I am sure that there are plenty of people who would like to upload a photo, but how to find them? I cannot figure out where to advertise, who to target.

Anyone searching for widgettes isn't necessarily wanting to upload a photo. So who is?

Any ideas where to advertise, where to mention, how to get the attention of people who'd be interested?

thanks
jonathan

IMHO you should advertize your widgets-themed site, not this single feature.

Read webmasterworld for ideas how to advertize your whole site.

For ulpoading feature:
just mention somewhere/everywhere on your site the possibility to upload own photos.

Probably, encourage people on your site by giving them something for uploading photos (gift certificate for the month's best photo, or a-50-bucks-worth-widgets-guide-forfree-uploadersonly, or self-printable widgetologist's certificate suitable for framing :).

Not all of your visitors will upload something, but there is always an active percentage -- thy will.
Just find visitors, and visitors who will ulpoad will do.

Put yourself in the other guy's shoes.
Somewhere on your page, have the words "upload my photo".
Notice the 'my', not 'your'. Heck, have BOTH versions.
Consider variations: photo, photos (plural), foto, fotos .. - Larry
