Hello once again : o)

I've got a client who wants to basically sell coach travels, weekends away, from uk to amsterdam etc. he has an established company, but now is looking to improve his website and go ecommerce.

Now i had looked at paypal for this buy i stumbled across: "paypal s*cks" with its wonderful information of horror stories, i understand that many people use paypal happily each day, but having that risk that paypal might freeze all assets in the account and the fact that they are not governed by banking laws as they are seen a money service, is a little too much of a concern, although i use them for my ebay buys.

i've done a fair amount of searching and i've managed to find Protx & authorize.net haven't looked into either too much. but i will do, so for payment gateways it seems like it will be one of those, unless somone can suggest something better?

In regards too those companies, how difficult is it to intregrate them into a shopping basket. i've yet to develope the basket so i've no worries about compatibility as i can build the basket specific to handle those, or ideally i'll do it open ended so i can offer possibly paypal in the end if the client feels safe enough with paypal.

SSL - who would you suggest, i've looked at verisign and when i see their label on a site i feel safe, but getting a client to spend out on their prices could be difficult, i have looked at godaddy, but i stumbled across nodaddy, which once again loads of horror stories. so i'm steering clear of godaddy due to that. so any suggestions would be great.

Hosting - it was going to be godaddy but for reasons meantioned above i'd prefer not, now i'll need, mysql/php/ssl (usuage, well the ability to use my own)/ .htaccess to build SEO links / ability to install scripts, ( i don't know how the gateways work, but i did research paypal and i would have needed to install some script to use their system so i assume its the same for others). so who would you suggest?

DNS - once again was looking at godaddy but with their i'll freeze your dns etc if a minor complaint happens then charge a nice amount to allow you to have it back if i don't already resell it, i decided to steer clear, i was suggested - moniker seems ok, they do also do hosting but it seems to be run from another site which i didn't like their packages. so any suggestions apart from moniker? (otherwise i'll proberly go with them)

i think thats about it, i did look at the webhost thepiratebay uses, i mean if they can keep thepiratebay up they have to be good, but once again the hosting is all wierd several different companies with not the most friendly of sites.

obviously any suggestions will be welcomed, and anything stated about companies in this post is not meant as an insult, unfortunatly i've been detered by horror stories.

seeing as there are experts here on this subject it would be great to get some input and advice, i will continue to search, its just alot of the topics are 2005-2006 and alot can happen in two years.

Thanks and kindest regards

- AW

do not use Paypal for services or anything you cannot ship & show proof of mailing. They are *not* a bank and will not even listen to any complaints if someone rips you off , as noted in their TOS. i use authorize.net, they are a payment gateway - you also need a merchant account, usually provided by a bank - wells fargo, chase, etc.

Godaddy is cheap, and the services isn't terrible - ive also used netSol but i do not like their customer support, and getting an SSL cert erhere is a b*tch. i have yet to find a service provider i like, so i set up my own reseller acct ( mosso.com). They're pretty good. as for SSL's, as long as its at least 128 bit your ok. as far as domain names, go with reigster.com, or google offers a registration service.
