The UK parent company of Amtrak has gone into administration, with the poor economy being blamed.

Netfold Ltd, which trades as Amtrak, operates two major distribution hubs in Aldridge and Warrington. It has 36 smaller depots around the country and employs 900 staff, whose jobs are now under threat.

Ecommerce levels in the UK are actually increasing - more people buy online as it's generally cheaper than on the High Street. Amtrak was never really good or big, I think they blame economy because it is much more convenient for them than admitting their own mistakes.

They cannot have been helped by the fact that potential customers were more likely to find a US rail company than a UK parcels courier.

A classic example of 'clever' marketing that shot itself neatly in the foot. Branding is all, these days.

But it's not the first time they've gone bust - they've learned from their mistakes, and can repeat them exactly.

Nobody that I have ever bought from by mail order or on-line has used them. I didn't realise they were still around.
