Has anybody got any idea what a decent amount of hits/visitors per day would be?
At this point (doing no advertising) I'm averaging 71 unique visitors a day and 2138 hits per day.
Regarding advertising on your site; what kind of visitors/hits do advertisers want to see before they are prepared to pay for advertising space?
1% is a decent click-through rate, although many sites do far better or far worse. Even at 1%, though, you'd need a day and a half to get just one click.
Maybe you have a very focused niche, though.
It will be interesting to read the other replies to your question.
I've been told that averaging 71 new visitors per day is quite good considering the fact that its brand new and I am not paying for marketing or advertising at the moment? That is an average, sometimes there are a lot more.
Does anybody know what average stats are for a brand new site? I've tried to research it, but I can't find a reliable resource indicating the average stats.
Sounds to me like you should back up just a tad before you assess the numbers you're looking at.
Questions.
1. Did you eliminate the bots and yourself and employees from the traffic stats,
2. Did you determine how much of that traffic came from a bookmark or type-in versus search,
3. For the traffic that came from search, did you discover what keywords brought that traffic, and
4. And did you make some guesstimations on the percentage of the traffic that might be potential customers versus curious visitors?
Compare the above with your conversion rate and then you'll have a more realistic picture to base your decision on.
As a side, I often use advertising for start-up sites just to help grease the wheels a bit. Keep an eye on your stats and when you see organic traffic (KW and bookmarked/type-in) exceeding the PPC then you can (but don't have to) stop the advertising or at maybe cut it back.
We're still at the very early stages, we have a marketing strategy which we are starting to impliment, so I'm not too worried about the numbers just yet ;-)
Lorax, am not paying for any advertising at the moment. I am getting an average of 71 daily brand new visitors who have never visited my site before. I use webalizer, so I can see where the hits are coming from and which key words are working with google search. I have about 2-6 full detail registrations with my site daily which is ok.
I'm just wondering what is considered 'normal' growth for a new site?
As I understand it, websites take time to grow, unless you have a lot of advertising revenue. Mines only been up and running 2 months and we have been sorting out teething probs which is why I haven't been paying for advertising just yet.
