very Simple SHOPPING CART to replace paypal buttons

Yes I know another shopping cart question. I'm not too lazy to use the search tool this is a specific request.

I need a very simple shopping cart to replace the Paypal and Google checkout buttons on our site. I normally use Volusion with an authorize.net gatway and processing.

HOWEVER I need a cart that behaves like a Paypal button. I don't want to be tied to the carts product display features. I do some weird overlays and other custom stuff on the product detail pages and Volusion or most other carts restrict you to their display format.

All I want is cart that operates like a paypal or google checkout button but supports authorize.net on the back end. Oh and it can't involve any serious programming.

Please help, I need a solution fast.

Thanks in advance.

Okay so maybe the answer was in the search tool :), anyone have experience with Mals E-Commerce. It looks like exactly what I need?

Thanks - J

Okay you guys are a sleep at the wheel, I'm just gona thread my own post. I saw some good reviews for Mals-e but I see they are based in England which is concerning in terms of support. And what is to stop them from capturing my cutomers CC info and selling it on the Nigerian scam network?

Thanks - J

Malcolm is reputable. He's been hosting that thing for years now. I become a fan of a service when I know the owner listens to his client base, is communicative about service issues, and actually knows how to write software.

Use a form based cart like StaticCart or Merchant Order Form etc. Allows you to integrate whatever you wish into any static/dynamic page.

Mal's, in my opinion, looks very unprofessional.

I had the same problem and just made my own simple php shopping cart by following an online tutorial. The final "checkout" button is really just a "buy now" button that dynamically inserts the product names, price, and shipping amount.

I have had great success with this method.

Thanks for the input guys I appreciate it. I ended up getting the Mals-e to work with a seperate button creator program I picked up from another source for $20.

I agree the cart interface is a bit simple looking but right now I just need to get something up. Google has $5k of mine tied up in their rediculous "verification" process.

BTW: UPDATE Google Checkout is still ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. Avoid it at all costs! I didn't listen to the bad reviews and I regreted it!

hardtofindusername I am no sure what your selling or service is but I have been using Google Checkout since the beginning and really it has been great.
Not one charge back no problems at all with deposits nothing it to me has been great.

Sorry to hear you're having such a bad time. What is Google trying to verify to hold up 5k in funds?

bwmbwn glad you asked, my post yesterday on Google Checkout was so harsh the admin deleted it.

Basically I went through all the financial verification proceedures (i/e bank & credit card verification, etc). I e-mailed Google 3 times before going live to triple verify that there were not issues with my account that would cause problems for my customers. According to them everything was good to go.

Just a couple of hours before Google was supposed to post the $5k into my account for the first few orders they froze the funds and said that I had to send additional verification documents (copies of id's, business license, etc, etc, etc,).

Very irritated but I sent them every document they requested. They then sent the e-mail posted below with ANOTHER "verification" process with some irrelevant questions (which looked more like business model pirating than business verification).

They then said that in order to receive my funds the customer had to receive their items and E-MAIL BACK TO GOOGLE that they received them? And if they didn't my funds would not be released. Keep in mind my average ticket is $1100 - $2500 for the products I sell so I am out a big chunk of change if the customer misses the e-mail or just plane doesn't want to respond to Google. I sure wouldn't.

It has been a week and I still don't have the funds and I promised my customers a certain delivery date. Our reputation is critical in our industry and Google really did a number on us and our customers.

I have to refund all the orders and re-process them through our new Authorize.net account (we dropped Google after this) and hope my customers don't tell us to forget it and go elsewhere.

I have been in this business a lot of years and Google Checkout is the most incompetent unprofessional CC processing system I have every experienced. My own stupid fault for not listening to the negative forum reviews on Google.

I don't know what the CEO of Google is thinking but if someone ran one of my divisions like they run GC he wouldn't even see the door hit him on the way out he'd be going so fast!

Google "verification" e-mail (i/e: business pirating)
--------------------------------------------------
Thank you for sending in your documents.

To help us better understand your business, please reply directly to this email with a more detailed explanation of the items you are selling and your general business model. Please explain how you find your customers, how long you have been in business and your projected three month GMV. In addition, are there other suppliers you will be working with in the future?

Also, as stated in our Terms of Service, we may require that items be shipped before the order is processed in our system. In accordance with our rules and regulations, Google Checkout will pay out your account balance after your buyers have confirmed receipt of their goods. You may continue to accept, charge and ship orders at this time.

We would like to work with you to complete your transactions in a timely and secure manner. We have contacted your buyer(s) and expect email confirmations once the goods are received. If you have not already clicked the "ship" option in your Checkout order receipt pages, you may wish to expedite this process by updating each order with tracking numbers and by emailing us when you have shipped your goods. If you have already clicked the "ship" option in your order receipt pages you will not be able to update these orders with tracking numbers. In this case, please respond directly to this email with all current tracking numbers and be sure to include tracking numbers for your future orders.

The Google Checkout Team created our Terms of Service with the best interest of both buyers and sellers in mind. We regret that our rules and regulations may not suit your business model. If you are unable to process your transactions within the given guidelines, please be sure to cancel and refund your buyer’s credit cards. In the event that you do not wish to continue processing this transaction with Checkout, we hope that you are successful in finding another payment processor that better suits your business needs.

hardtofindusername I guess it was the size of the orders that caused this reaction from Google. I am kinda suprised they would want an email from the buyer though as thses could as well be forged.

I assume there was a test period that they needed to make sure the orders were shipped and delivered. Not having the funds to order them without processing the credit cards may be the cause of all the problems

I promised my customers a certain delivery date.

You have to remember Google is the one at risk here to lose the 5k if you don't ship the items as the customers can come back on Google for refunds, so we have to put the shoe on the other foot.

Question if I were to sign up for a service and got all the paper work to you and then processed 5 k in orders in a matter of days would you take a hard look at me if it were you were gonna be held accountable for me not delivering the goods.

It was the size of the charges that caused the issue and you being a brand new account.

I suspect the cc processor you will get will make you put down 6 k in holdings until they determine your business is solid enough to process and issue the money into your account.

Anyway you have it worked out best of business to ya.

bwnbwn Credit card processors process amounts like this all day long, that is what they do. Paypal and Authorize.net hold the same risk and they have never given me such unprofessional headaches.

I have no problem with Google or any other merchant wanting to verify me or my account. It was in the extremely incompetent way it was done. I sent Google a numerous e-mails notifying them that my ticket averages will be $1200 - $2500 and I wanted to verify that there wont be a problem. They said there wont, they lied.

It was the last minute grab of my funds and the holding it until we verify you routine that upset me. No other processor would behave that way. It was extremely unprofessional and down right scandalous! I will never use Google Checkout again, ever, and I will strongly urge everyone I know to avoid it.
