Finding a merchant account

I have been searching around for a merchant account via general banks.

HSBC, Lloyds, Barclays Ect

But for what i am looking for the set up fees were to high for me and i found a cheaper quote for the rates by 1/2. All i did was search in google under chip and pin obviously looking for payment by credit card and it appears that they sorted out a merchant account for me aswell.

Obviously in the mean time i will continue looking, can anyone give me some hints as to whom would be a good idea as it is cheap rates that i really need?

Many Thanks.

Whether a merchant account quote is good for you will be based on the type of business you run. You need a good grasp of how much volume you expect to process, average order total, and type of cards your customer will use. For example, someone who sells Qty 1000 items per month @ $10.00 USD will need a very different merchant account than someone who sells Qty 10 items per month @ $1,000 USD.

I have to admit getting a merchant account is very stressful. I'm very happy with my current one, but I did have a sleazy merchant processor before which was a nightmare. Ugh, I don't want to think about it... ;)
