hi,

we work with several banks as payment gateways. up until now we have been able to connect to each bank's authorization mechanism and capture the response, all the while staying on our own servers.

a new bank with whom we would like to work can only do the CC authorizations on a page hosted on their own server. the page is fully customizable, but it still means the customer first of all enters his personal details on our servers and then goes to the bank page to enter credit card details separately.

we think we shall lose sales because of the extra step involved (although paypal does exactly this sort of thing), would be interested to hear any opinions or experiences.

many thanks

it is possible. Usually the companies that offer this type of service are a third party processor. Almost all electronic payment gateways will provide you with an API.

You say it is fully customizable - does it mean that there will be a seamless checkout in which the customer will know that it is not another site? Most online shopped are savvy enough in this day and age to know the major 3PP players. It would probably deter some sales because of all the fears going around

no i can't guarantee that. it further means we are reliant on another server in terms of speed etc; and are including an extra step where there should be no need for one.

we are very reluctant to move with this bank, the only reason is that several of our suppliers have specifically asked that we include this option. hmmmm.

Most of thes "fully customizable" sites allow you to input a logo & maybe a footer so it is pulled from a database. I have not really seen one that is "fully customizable".
