getting chargeback information?

any chargebacks i've had have always been settled in favour of the card holder.

my last one was 2wks ago for £178 - all card details matched & goods were signed for by the card holder at the confirmed address.

however, the payment gateway won't give me any information except that they will be charging me a fee of £10 due to the cb reversal.

does anyone know how i can force them to give the name of the c/card company involved as i want to take them to the small claims court.

it seems rediculous that a seller cannot be respectfully provided with some basic details relating to the loss they have incurred - if its a stolen card fair enough - at least you know.

If you want to take somebody to small claims court the credit card company is the wrong address I think. Take the buyer to small claims court. And not only that: Report him to the police. Buying something on the internet, receiving the goods and not paying is called fraud.

the police don't want to know - have already tried - they say its a civil matter.

nowadays there is no such thing as theft instead its called scamming - something completely different.

What your local police mean is that they want to keep their crime statistics down. The easiest way to do that is simply not to record crimes.

We have had the opposite experience. Almost always win a chargeback dispute here. If you have your i's crossed and your t's dotted, I would suggest you change your merchant account provider.

You can get the card number through the batch processed and date the order was placed can't ya?

When I get a charge back all I get is the batch amount processed that day and the amount of the charge being charged back that was in that batch amount.

however, the payment gateway won't give me any information except that they will be charging me a fee of £10 due to the cb reversal.

Is this your payment gateway? I assume it is they will provide you the cc'c bank home number at least they will here in the US.

I then go to the batch and bring up the orders in that batch match the charge and I have the card number then I can get the cc's bank information and call to confirm the address and name information provided on the order is correct.

All the bank will say is match or no match that is it no other information will be given you need to get this confirmed the information is correct.

If it is then you proceed to other actions but I bet there is something wrong and you need to see were the failure happened to not be a repeat.

I agree with the above, you need a better provider. In the last seven years I've only had two chargebacks upheld. You need a provider who is going to be on your side.
