We are seeing close to a 95% cart abandon rate. We now offer free shipping on everything and it still doesn't seem to have improved. In most cases they don't even attempt to check out. I posted in the review forum a few weeks back if anyone has time to take a look and make suggestions.

95% abandon rate seems much higher than normal.

Do you list the terms and prices of your product/service before the shopping cart comes up?

From personal experience when ordering myself I can tell you I usually abandon the order-page when the pricng and terms are not clearly disclosed beforehand, which lack of advance details happens frequently.

The price is listed on the item very clearly, and now offering free shipping, there is no other change. I can't tell if it is just normal for my sector or if there is a perception issue with my site.

What is your % sale to hits as most now I say most ecommerce sites are doing really good if they are getting 1%

Wow, well, that is my problem then. If you calculate it that way, I am doing at least 1% - 2%. Guess I just need more traffic...

I would bet that is the issue as I looked over your site and the prices are fine.

I assume the shoes you sell the maker have pretty much set the price to keep it from becoming a price war and devaluing their shoes so most of the sellers are about the same price.

Thanks for the input. At least I know now I am not going crazy.

You should check how easy it is for a bot to hit your site and add stuff to carts... it could be that some bot trying to post to forums or trying some cart exploit is adding stuff to your cart but never taking it to checkout.

We had something similar happen and looking deeper we found it was as string of infected computers.

I am reviewing the raw apache logs. The traffic is natural...
