I offer a subscription-based directory service on my website and I tend to get customers that completely forget they signed up for a recurring-billing product when it comes time for their next payment. Somebody sent me an email this morning actually threatening to sue PayPal if I didn't cancel their "so called subscription" and refund their money.

My pricing clearly states that the fee is per one-month or six-month term, and there's a service agreement with a separate check box to verify that the customer understands it's a recurring billing product.

Other than ignoring wackos with an attorney on speed dial, is there anything else I can do to make it clear that subscription means "until you cancel"?

Perhaps you could send an automatic reminder a day or two before the payment is due. So people now that a certain amount will be deducted from their paypal account soon and what it is for.

Especially for ones you only bill every six month.
