Adsense revenue vs loss of customers?

I was just thinking about the decision for Amazon to add sponsored links on their website from Google.

I know they have had them there for a long time but I was wondering how they calculated the loss of customers from losing them to clicking on advertiser links vs the actual revenue gained from Google.

I was considering adding sponsored links to my own ecommerce sites....

I am sure they test and test things like this...I know from having my AdWords ads appear on Amazon that they can rake in a fair amount of money.
