Nigerian relay call orders waste valuable resources

I realize that I am not the only individual who has been targeted for phone order/relay call fraud from Nigeria.
We get a few calls a month. None have been worth while and each call is for an odd order eg..all of our Bill Clinton books, every copy of our "Blacks Law dictionary" etc...
I have found that having the caller give you the credit card name, acct. #, and toll free number from the back proves to disuade the caller from perpetrating the scam. If everything does match up then you get the sale and the customer is happy.

When we get relay calls, they usually ask for a huge quantity of a product. I put the call on hold, telling the operator it will take a very long time for me to check stock. I go about my work. 15 minutes later I return to the phone and say we have nothing in stock; goodbye.

The operator doesn't care (he's paid either way) and usually enjoys seeing the scammer get scammed.

It's fun to waste as much of the crook's time as possible!

My experience is that 100% of relay calls FOR OUR PRODUCTS are scams.

We used to get alot of those calls. Out of about 100 we would actually take the time to hear out, one was from a hearing impaired person, the rest were Nigerians.
Just hang up, they eventually get the point and dont call back.
But when they do call, expect to see fradulent orders. They tend to follow up a fraud order with an ip-relay call

The caller will probably not say where he's calling from and may only give the "ship-to" address which might be in your own country.

If in doubt, ask the relay operator what country the the relay call originates from. I don't know if the operator always knows for certain. But when I asked, she told me that it was Nigeria. My reply: "Oh, it's my lucky day" to which the operator broke up laughing.
