I would like to open small webshop and sell music for download - legally.
So my questions are:
1. How do I get music to my webshop?
(what I meant here: whom do I conntact musicians, record companies or there is some other way)
2. Which software is suitable? I would prefer open source solution, but if there is some good specialized software just for music webshops I could consider of buying it.
I appreciate your answers

Lastly you would need an ecommerce platform that would support digital downloads and tracking thereof (and probably the licensing if you choose to go this route)
You could however help out the independent artists and do it however you deem fit but if you want to sell popular music get ready to make a hefty investment in licensing & royalties to get started as well as technology and commerce platforms.
Many labels have online affiliate programs on their sites now.
You can make your service work as follows:
1. Join the programs and get the links.
2. Build your website as you wish and have the linked affiliate sites show on a sub-page via frames, to maintian your navigation in one section and the display of the partnered page in the main area.
3. Reap the rewards of all labels and tracks legally and have a better ranking for it in the spiders searching your embedded links reading the links back to the label's sites, making their traffic your follow-through traffic.
Legal and creative.
The catch here that keeps this legal and you out of trouble is that if you sell/promote ads, products or services outside of that which is being offered on the affiliate links, keep it seperate and ONLY sell/promote the downloads, or products of the affiliate links THROUGH the affiliate links.
Charging for access to these links, products, and/or services without the licensing and royalty fees properly being paid is in fact illegal and not suggested nor recommended.
Keep it simple, don't get greedy and have fun with it. If you need a good service to provide live radio feeds or whatever, you can find those in searches..there are really good options out there. You just have to look.
In closing, peer-2peer/p2p is not legal. Stay away from it completely. If it isn't public domain, it isn't legal to offer without paying licensing and royalties.
Protect yourself as well as your customers because whatever you illegally sell, they illegally buy. The act is " receiving stolen goods " and the FBI recognizes theft of digital media such as movies, music and software a big issue.
Hope this helps.
