I am new to Webmaster World and wanted to start off by saying hi to everyone. I am about to redo the website of one of my businesses for my high school graduation project. I need the new site to support cookie based affiliate links and tracking, discount codes, only paypal payments for subscriptions and google checkout, paypal, and e-gold for regular non-recurring purchases. I need to track affiliate sales no matter who processes them (paypal, google checkout, or e-gold). Upon a successful payment a buyer should see a confirmation page and all of the payment details and affiliate tracking info should be passed to a server side script that will automatically process the order, email the product to the buyer, and record all the relevant data in a data base.
I want to do most of the work on my own, so I am not looking to pay someone to code this for me. I just want to know if I should hand code this in PHP or Ruby on Rails or if I should use an ecommerce system and if so, which ecommerce system should I use?
Thanks in advance!
