UK Paypal Question

Do purchasers still need a Paypal account?

Hi Guys ...

I know that for a while, it has been possible to pay US merchants using Paypal without having to sign up for a Paypal account. There was some talk of implementing this for UK merchants too a while back ... has this been done yet?

If so, are there any gotchas or problems to watch out for these days when using Paypal to accept credit cards on a simple eCommerce site?

Also ... what are the other alternatives these days for a "quick and easy" merchant account in the UK?

Many thanks in advance for any replies :)

Yes, it has been done. Read this thread.

Nochex has been mentioned as an alternative for UK sellers; do the Site Search for comments.

As to Paypal problems note that the buyer will be transferred to the Paypal site and will have to select the Not a Paypal Member option if he is not a Paypal member--I would add clarifying instructions about the procedure so he doesn't drop out.

There have been a number of complaints about Paypal freezing accounts for suspected fraud, so I think it is a good idea to not keep a substantial amount of money in a Paypal account.
