International customers & merchant account currency?

Hello,

I was just wondering, for international customers how does the different currencies work if they buy something from my US website with their international credit card?

For example, let's say a UK customer buys something from my website which is in USD; how does my merchant account handle this transaction. Do they just charge their card in USD currency, and then their card reflects the charge in the UK Pound?

Just curious to see how this works!

Thank you,

You charge in USD, your merchant bank charges the customer's card in USD, the customer's card converts to Pounds (at a terrible exchange rate and tacks on a ridiculous 1-2% or more foreign transaction surcharge), and the customer sees the charge in Pounds. Depending on the merchant account and credit card, he might also see the original price in UDS.
