I was hoping some of you experienced store owners could go over some of the 'discounting' features you guys have in your shopping carts, and how you go about setting up the discounting feature.
Sales : Is there a easy way to set up a sale in your software? How do you set up a sale? (per product, category, type?)
Coupon: what kind of characteristics do your coupons have? (time limited, usage limited, restricted to a product type?)
Gift Certificate: This is just a pre-purchase 'credit' towards anything in the store right? Any issues with managing gift cirtificates management you want to shed some light on?
Thanks in advance for your insights!
You might use them to pleasure customers, as an excuse, as a stimulus for customers to perform a desired action, or as a substitute to payment return, where you were not able to fullfill a particular order. And of course, you can just offer them for sale.
We also have a "promotional" certificates, that are usable only if order amount exceeds a pre-defined value.
Certificates definitely must be time-limited -- to avoid having them hanging on you indefinitely.
Some people here mentioned there are states where you cannot make certificates expire. Clever guys charge a specified per-month "certificate storage fee" after a certain period. to make them slowly rotten and disappear from the debts list.
In my opinion, if you have not implemented them till yet, it should be on your top priorities list :-)
