I'd like to "hire" representatives at college campuses across the US to promote my site. One student actually contacted me recently asking permission to promote my site at his school. Is there a website that can facilitate this type of rep hiring?

Is there anything wrong with telling the student who contacted me that he is free to promote my site in any legal manner he chooses, and he should direct people to a certain URL where they will receive a discount and he will receive a commission via PayPal?

I wouldn't give him Carte Blanche to promote your site anyway he wanted.

Have him submit his ad, flyer or site that he is planning on using for your

approval...KF

There are all sort of legal ramifications to hiring people. Employers can be liable for acts of employees.(see master/servant case law)

Better to assure these kids are considered independent contractors in the eyes of the law, and potential plaintiffs. There are also complex tax and insurance issues,

Check with a lawyer.

I've been over employee/independent contractor issues before and I will make sure these guys clearly fall under the independent contractor category.

As far as approving their promotion materials, it seems like an unnecessary step to me. If they want to pass around fliers that talk about how terrible my business is, they don't need my permission.

What do you guys think? It seems like I should jump into this one after going over the independent contractor checklist.
