Add to Cart Button - Text or Image?

Currently on most of my E-commerce sites we'll run the add to cart as a text link with a solid color (often Green) behind it, though I've been seriously considering changing this to a pure, ugly image like Amazon.com's.

What does everyone else think about this issue? Have your conversion rates differed one way or the other?

I guess I don't see what you are talking about. I went to Amazon and it looks like their "Add to Shopping Cart" button is yellow.

I find buttons to be more visible-if designed properly. You really don't need to rank for "Add to Cart". If it were "Buy Now" then there may be a debate, as there is some value in that term.

Just be sure to keep accessibility in mind.

"You really don't need to rank for "Add to Cart". "

That brings up an interesting point. Take our main page which is full of featured items. It does have the phrase "add to cart" listed multiple times. Could this potentially be diluting the SEO?

We rank very well for our niche, but I'd like to eliminate as much clutter as possible.
