Savings of a merchant account?

I've read through many of the excellent topics in this forum and in the FAQ regarding merchant accounts vs. PayPal, etc.

I'm currently using PayPal Website Payments Pro on a rapidly growing site. If I switch to a merchant account and payment gateway, approximately how much would I save on the transaction costs? Let's say I will have 200 transactions per month for a total of $10,000.

Right now, I'm paying 30 cents and 2.5% per transaction. Is using a merchant account really significantly cheaper?

Thanks in advance!

About the same werever you go. This is pretty close to what I pay but I have read were there are others paying less. How much less I am not sure due to the hidden charges for the cheaper processors.

BTW Congratulations on your business sales...

Just get you a simple spreadsheet and figure out your costs.

With the volume at $10,000, chances are you are looking at approximately $50.00 per order? If so, you are probably looking at spending about $310.00

With a merchant account, you are looking at spending between $290 and $320.00. However, if Paypal Pro is the same as Paypal (meaning that you need to contact them to get your money), then a merchant account is well worth it. While some "e-commerce gurus" will say stay with Paypal, you are losing more money (and time) because you have to sign in to get your money.

With a merchant account, the money is deposited automatically into your bank account. And if you want, some providers will the complete transaction and deduct your charges at the end of the month.
