Paily were an interesting attempt at verifying users. So far the only service that gets away with forcing customers to jump through hoops is PayPal.

"Our Paily money transfer service has been discontinued."

And this hints at their problems, talking about a new service they provide:

"We are very conscious that an online purchase must not be overly onerous on customers.

* We do not require customers to open an account with us;
* We do not require customers to scan or fax documents;
* We do not require customers to wait for a special "random" charge to appear on their credit card statement;
* Your customers never leave your site.

Our technologies and methods come to a conclusion without discouraging your customers from their intention to buy at your site."

I expect they also had considerable problems with chargebacks as well.

I've always found paypal very easy to use.

Who are these paily people? I never heard of them.
