An eBay executive warned Wednesday that fewer small businesses would sell products through the Web auctioneer, and elsewhere online, without a permanent ban on Internet access taxes.

Congress first imposed a moratorium on taxing Internet access — which bars state and local governments from taxing the connection to basic Internet content — in 1998. Since then, it has been twice extended, but is set to expire Nov. 1.

The only thing that would come of taxing all internet purchases is companies like Quickbooks and 3rd party tax softwares would show boosted revenues.. states themselves would see a temporary boost and then major drop.

I'd say 85% of all purchases online are already taxes because the big boys already have a presence in every state and pay taxes already.. is this just there way to leverage ebay out of existence by making it impossible for small etailers to operate because of government bureaucracy?
