Is it worth it?

We got the offer from Network solutions to upgrade to a "Extended Validation SSL Certificate". Do you think it is worth the cost? We did see an improvement in out completed checkouts when we got a ssl certificate.

Thanks

I've only seen a few sites implement them; PayPal, Windows Live ID to name a few. They seem to be popular with banking/payment sites, but I have not seen them adopted by eCommerce sites at all.

My concern would be shopper confusion, wondering why your site messed with the color of their address bar.

Most sites, like me, are probably waiting for their current certificate to expire. Mine expires in January...so long as its not too expensive I'll probably go with an extended security one. Doubt many people will notice the difference though.

just paid the big bucks for the verisign EV SSL. Between the EV and the seal it's worth it for higher volume sites. I'm getting half as many abandonments as before when we had a godaddy cert and we haven't changed anything else yet. Working of streamlining our checkout process I'll report back on what else has worked the best. We also got a slight increase in conversions from our Hacker Safe logo (seemed to help best with converting organic traffic - paid traffic conversion went up only very slightly but that could be because ppc traffic quality in general keeps going down)
