I have been using paypal for a while and i discovered If you are using a third party merchant account like paypal or 2checout you pay higher fee's but less monthly. paypal %3.9 2checkout 4.5
now that i started processing 100K/year i left the paypal option and added easycharge.net as an alternative option. I only pay %2.25 but there is a monthly fee.

2.25% is OK you could get a bit lower. Also look to see if the electronic payment gateway is charging you a transaction fee. Usually there is a transaction fee imposed by the merchant account provider and then some gateways will also charge a fee as well

With Paypal, they will adjust your discount rate as well depending on your previous month's volume.
