Hi,

we're working on marketing plan to promote our new on-line service for small- to medium- sized business. Where you guys would expect to reach SMB owners?

What comes to mind:
- business-oriented newspapers/magazines
- SMB information portals
- trade shows
- specific keywords in SE (like "registered office")
- direct mail
- partnership with oter companies offering services for SMB

Learned yet-another new business buzzword: "SMB business"

Been running businesses for decades and never heard that term. Yet I see it's all over Google now.

Tips:

1) If you want to reach small businesses don't use fad CorpSpeak.

2) Small businesses tend to hate the term "small business" which they view as a pejorative.

Great notes, jsinger -- I appreciate that.

IMHO, the widespread usage of this term just indicates that big companies are serious about turning small businesses into their customers. When big business speak, it is heard everywhere.

For example, one big company (always been well known for its mainframe computers) now actively promotes itself among SMBs.

The reason is that offering services to big businesses is pretty lucrative, but by now that market is saturated, and big players turned for smaller profits and bigger headaches.
