A wire transfer is usually done by your bank.

Go to your bank, give them the wire transfer details, they usually charge you a $20-$40 fee, and then make the transfer.

Do you want to send a wire transfer or do you want to receive a wire transfer from someone?

Either way the receiving party needs to go to his/her bank and ask for a detailed wire transfer instruction

It normally via a corresponding bank in another country, so the bank needs to give the receiving party information including that too.

It doesn't go by country, it goes by bank. Our bank (CitiBank) charges $20 to send a wire and $10 to receive.

It is certainly expensive if you're just wiring a few hundred dollars (but there are certainly alternatives available for that niche), but very insignificant once you get to 4 figures and above.

Talk to your bank- many banks offer online banking. CitiBank offers online banking with wire transfers. You can save all the banking information for wire recipients- very helpful for accounts you send money to frequently. For example, once I'm logged on, I can wire money to our office in Korea with just 6 clicks.
