I'd like to get a thread going to see what type of abondon rates you all are seeing to see if I'm missing out on sales. Currently I'm getting a 50% cart abandon rate and this seems a little high to me. Any ideas? I'm in the outdoor apparel industry.

Type "cart abandonment rate" into Google and you'll see that's not at all atypical, within a very broad range. But it is something that businesses should focus more on, mine included.

Are your shipping rates clearly listed on your site? I've noticed there are lots of people who only goes as far as the shipping calculation to see how much the shipping costs.

Just looked at my checkout system again due to increased Abandonment. There's a few things i missed out on, so these were the changes i made..

Ensured the Shipping was calculated on the review basket page

Made all the links standard i.e. SHOPPING BASKET, CHECKOUT instead of Cart, other derivatives..

Removed the addtocart re-direct script back to product page rather than sending them to the shopping basket.

Instead of BUY or ORDER, used ADD on the product pages..

Made the Checkout button larger than empty/update

Added Links back to the product pages

Used a little rainbow script to highlight the review basket link on all pages if items are in the cart. (this ensures the visitor sees that there are items in there and draws their attention)

Displayed safe shopping image

Removed all the tripe regarding fraud..

And finally reject visitors from Nigera, macadeonia etc... from entering the checkout pages

Fingers crossed Ill keep you posted..
