PayPal UK no longer requires signup

I can hardly believe it but upon checking it seems that PayPal have now done away with the requirement to sign up first in the UK also (been like this in US & Canada for a while). When did this happen? I see no mention of the fact on paypal.co.uk, can another UK paypal merchant confim this too?

Yeah, I think they ahve. I havent done the paypal check out for a while, and it certainly looks different. I got up to the billing page and hadnt asked me to create an account.

There are now 3 pages rather than just the one. One for shipping info, 1 for billing and possily 1 to confirm. I'm not sure though, as I didnt go past billing?

Good news alround though really. As far as I'm concerned at least.

It was announced earlier this month; you might want to keep an eye on the "New Service Features" section of PayPalDev for updates like this.

The process is:

Shipping (unless the button code has no_shipping=1)
Billing
Pay (a review/confirm page)
Done

(There is a status bar at the upper right of the page to display the customer's progress.)

Why do you say that Phantombookman? The customer still has to fill in all the usual CVV & Billing address details, in fact they have to enter almost as much info as if they were opening an account. Paypal still do all their anti-fraud checks on each transaction, plus you can turn of the "optimised cart experience" (or whatever paypal call it) in your account options.

phantombookman is right about that. A few of my U.S. clients got hit with fraud charges via Paypal. I helped them to understand and review each member to hopefully prevent that.

Hopefully they will update their typepad website pp_rb. I really don't want to look thru another forum for things like this. Afterall, they did announce the U.S. one there.

As we only ship to the credit card holders billing address (which we state on our website), is there anyway in our paypal account where we can disable the option for the customer to enter a seperate shipping address in paypal? just so that this elimantes any confusion on our customers side.

Paypal either has or will soon have an API to verify whether or not an address exists in their system and whether or not it is confirmed.

What checks are these? are you suggesting they can/do check all the card numbers against addresses?

At least with a merchant account you can get your provider to check with the card issuer to make sure all is OK, with PP you can check absolutely nothing with this new system.

Hmm, my country is not included in the PayPal supported list (which is frighteningly short, what 38 out of 200?). Recently I wanted to pay for a service online whi used only PayPal for their processing. They kept insisting I didn't have to be a PayPal member, but PayPal still required me to sign up for something... with it's incomplete form taht doesn't support my country... Oh, and it's a moderate, western civilisation. Not some thief's/fraudster's paradise that needs to be stamped out!

Also long as PayPal is this unfriendly I have no use for it, or services that offer it as their only payment method...

I just got a reply from them to my original email. They say that "this feature is NOT available to users in Germany and the UK."

What the hell is going on? Their UK website says that "user account optional" is available and their support people say that it is not. This does not improve my confidence rating!

As long as you have selected the setting in your Profile to require a Confirmed Address, the customer's billing address will be used for the shipping address in the Account Optional checkout. They will not be given the option to enter a different address for shipping.

Isn't it that you can turn on the "user account optional" facility or not, as you please, but it will nevertheless only be available for non-UK buyers at the point of purchase?

I sent them an email and I was told that they did not yet support this but the information above is taken from the UK version of their site. There is even a testimonial from a satisfied UK customer.

Wasn't there a Paypal employee who used to post in here? Was it Paypal Dave or something. He was in the USA but perhaps he could answer the question and if it is now possible perhaps he could tell the UK people about it :)

Paypal is like any other typical corporation, you can call them three times and get three different answers.

Most large corporations do :) - I mean, I have gotten to the point where when I need to know something, I call a company at least twice to verify they will give me the same answer.

It's been enabled for the UK. The best way to test this, if you're in the UK, is to try a test payment to yourself through a "Buy Now" button. Click on the option to check out without an account, and you'll see the Account Optional Shipping & Billing screens instead of a signup page.

Every company is trying to improve their services to better satisfy their clients needs. Lately I have seen improvements in each one of the top payment processors in the world. It seems that paypal and ikobo are the first to implement this feature into their systems.

PayPal still requires buyers to sign up in order to pay UK sellers. At:

they state, "Q: Do I need a PayPal account to pay my seller? A: If you wish to pay a UK seller, you will need a PayPal account. If your seller is from elsewhere and has PayPal Account Optional turned on, you will not be required to create a PayPal account."

Let me get this straight...

What happens the SECOND time a person buys on Paypal? what has killed me in the past is buying once on Paypal then not knowing what password I gave severel months ago for the card in question.

Is this still the case? Do you need to remember a password on the second call?
