Selling two things that are not in the same niche?

Have you tried it?

I am also starting out an online business. (just finished my first round of logo designs. It surprised me on how much time just flew by while I was creating it. I can only imagine how long it will take to design a great web site... But I really love doing it so it is more fun then work).

I am planning on selling <snip> along with something most everyone likes. There is a loose connection between the two things that I have chosen. But I think it will not only go after the people that are into this topic area but attracts the general public too. I think it will work better in a store then online....but I would like to see what happens online first and raise from capital.

Question: Has anyone tried to sell two things that are not in the same niche? If so what were the results?

I think you really need to look at merchandising, you seem to be heading in that direction
