I have a community based site, and I would like to allow merchants to sell products on my site. I've seen a couple different scripts out there that will allow the customer to upload their own products so that I wouldn't have to. Basically they manage their products prices etc, and the site owner (me) handles the transactions and then pays them their money mminus commision.

The two scripts I have seen that do this are Multi-Cart and X-cart. Does anyone use these, or are you familar with any others that do this?

X-Cart offers a multi-vendor version that allows individual vendors to manage their own "stores". I haven't actually used this version but I have worked with the single store version and found it to be pretty good.

Here's what I liked and disliked about X-cart:

Pros -

- HUGE community support. Forums with 13,000 users
- Affiliate add-on option available to PAY commissions to other sites that link to my store.
- About 10 other add-ons which may or may not be useful for my site
- more intuitive control panels than Multi-cart, with detailed help
- Very professional, polished look, comparable to high-end shopping websites

Cons -
- No built-in affiliate/commission support. Requires manual calculation and administration.
- No indication to the public that products are from certain sellers. Not unless photo or description discloses it. (could be pro or con)
- price, $499
