Hi All

Has anybody had any experience with the Yahoo Stores Site Builder? Is it as easy and reliable as everyone seems to think?

I ask this question because I was considering using their service and I need to know how difficult it is to build.

I have my product but I need a site. Are there any hidden fees?

Please send your thoughts.

Thanks!

I do not know anything about it; doing my own.
However I know of someone happy to be able to directly print UPS labels from the site

Hi Joe:
I have just used SiteBuilder for my new e-commerce site hosted by Yahoo. They give you two options, to use their store editor or to use a web hosting solution like SiteBuider. Dreamweaver and Macromedia Flash are very difficult to use, unless you are an IT Pro.

I found it easy to use, except I'm using an older computer and it sucks up memory like you read about. but it is a great way to really customize your site.

There are no hidden fees with yahoo, they are straight up about their monthly fee. Check to see if they offer your first month free. Of course marketing your site using their resources or other's resources will cost you, but those fees aren't hidden either.

Give SiteBuilder a go, it's free. Just download it and try it out, then if you have a Yahoo ID, you also have a free geocities webpage to use. Publish a small site there to experiment. If you like it, use it is my advice. Enjoy!

Yon't have to be an IT pro to use FrontPage or dreamweaver. In fact - those two programs are designed for the exact opposite of IT pro. If you're a Pro, you'll either be using notepad, or something like VisualStudio.

Second - I actually came on this site looking for info about Yahoo Stores. I have a client who wants me to build them a yahoo store, and honestly - i have zero experience with it. After about 15 minutes of looking through Yahoo's documentation - i'm already sick of it. They say it's extremely customizable using RTML, but they don't give you any sort of real RTML reference. They say you can create custom scripts and the such with it, but they don't tell you how. In fact - they come right out and say they're not going to tell you how. What's up with that?

All in all - if you want to do something like this. Take an extra month before launching your site. Teach yourself HTML and PHP - and do the whole thing yourself. It's not hard to learn, and you're going to be better off in the long run.
Like I said - i've been looking at yahoo's documentation for all of 15 minutes, and i can already tell it's a piece of crap that's not worth the time.

sinixstar, you should probably spend another five minutes to learn that the Yahoo Store - now, "Merchant Solutions" - no longer requires the archaic RTML.

Yahoo's Merchant Solutions, introduced a little over a year ago, provides full turn-key integration into any website design by setting up a simple database, and adding a couple snippets of code on the 'buy' pages.

No muss, no fuss. We have dozens of clients running the new Yahoo Merchant Solutions, and after the web pages are developed and optimized, it only takes a day or two to set up the ecommerce portion for several hundred products.

It's certainly worth looking at for a quick, easy, and secure ecommerce solution.
