GeoIP Data

Anyone use it for their online shop?

Hi,

I am testing a new online store which will use GeoIP info to identify the visitors country. This info will be used to display the correct currency to the visitor.

However I noticed a potential problem whilst checking over the store last night. The site where the IP info is stored was down, and this made my store very very slow, and even going down.

I was wondering whether anyone here was using GeoIP and if there are any solutions to this problem. I was wondering whether it's possible to use two different providers?

Any help or advice appreciated.

there are free solutions around that can be hosted on your server as well, this would mean you would do updates yourself but I have used them in the past and had success

Maxmind has a free download as well that you can integrate into your database so you don't have to rely on a third party

Can you code a default in case the request fails?
