Same person has made repeateded attempts to pay for order with cards that do not appear to belong to this person.
Who do I contact and where do I find the phone numbers, web site, email addresses for those I should contact.
I have done a search and it is far too generic.
I do not know what bank these cards are drawn on.

You should report suspected fraud to the police, who will know how (and if) to proceed.

Your payment service provider should provide comprehensive information on handling suspected fraud (WorldPay certainly do), and this should cover all you need to know.

Thank you.
I did call IMS and they were able to give me the numbers for the issuing banks with the exception of Discover, which he says I call direct.

FYI newbees

contact your merchant banking supplier they will do it for you.
I took 12 numbers of a Nigerian once, just kept telling him the number did not seem to work and he kept sending another until he either ran out or twigged. Reported each one and got them all cancelled!

We have had this discussion many times. It always comes down to the realization that nobody seems to care about attempted fraud. Believe it or not.

Basically what you are saying is that unless I am totally and completely ripped off in a transaction, no one will really care about this situation?
That is wrong. At least by posting here I feel that maybe I can warn someone else about this person.

<snip>

Because I care about ATTEMPTED FRAUD!

Actually, they probably won't care if you're actually ripped off either. You're the one whose stuck paying for it, not them. ::grumble::

We call the attempts in anyway, but it's usually like pulling teeth to report these things. Some banks grudgingly take the information, and a couple even assure us that they'll notify the card holder or put a hold on the card.

merchant911.org has a mailing list for merchants where I usually post the information as well.

I care too!

But, with 5 years of ecommerce under my belt I can tell you that nothing will get done as you go through the motions of reporting "attempted fraud". I have spent countless hours trying to contact cards and banks, most of the time the people I talked to did not care.

So I have stopped reporting (because it wastes our time) and I simply rip up the order. I am getting a fraud attempt about once a day. So if I pick up the phone, call the 800 number, sit on hold, tell the story... yada yada yada. There goes a half hour where I could be servicing REAL orders from REAL customers.

Maybe I am jaded, but you will be where I am soon too.

Good point.
I didn't think about it that way. It IS time taken away from real customers who deserve our time and attention.
Thanks for the PERSPECTIVE, and no I don't think you are jaded so much as you are refocused.

Thanks.
