Got some questions about anti-fraud?

Hi,
I'm planning to setup my own template store using osCommerce or Zen Cart in the near future, so I can sell some of my home-made templates. I'm based in the UK (but will sell internationally), and as I am just starting up I can't afford to pay for expensive software or add-ons. I want to use Paypal, or a similar service for receiving payments.

I've been reading about fraud regarding e-commerce, and am wondering what measures I need to take to protect myself against fruad?

I've been looking at MaxMind MinFraud after reading about it on these forums, to process Paypal payments. Anyone got any advice regards MinFraud and Paypal (and how good the add-ons for Zen Cart and osCommerce that use MiNFraud are?)?

Are there any services out there (on a fee per transaction basis) that will both process the payment to an account (whether direct to my bank, or in a method like Paypal) and perform a security check on payments so I don't get hit with charges?

Are there any ways to do the checks myself? Certain things that I can look for, or check against to verify that the buyer is genuine and not a fraudster? I don't plan to be selling thousands of templates a day quite yet, so I'd have time to perform checks manually if it is possible.

All advice is greatly appreciated. :)

Address Verification and CVV2 / CVC2 / CID is your first step. Then maybe signing up for VBV / MSC might help you in some situations.

Paypal will also scrub some parts of the transaction for you. You just need to be able to make sure the other information matches.

Other things to watch out for are customers that have to have it now. High ticket orders are another one. A customer ordering the same product(s). And orders made of of big-ticket items.

Maintain a customer database as well and watch out for:
orders shipped to a single address but on multiple cards
Multiple cards from a single IP address
Multiple transactions on one card or similar cards with a single billing address but mulitple shipping addresses
