Greetings,

I've noticed on ebay that some sellers use a 3rd party company to manage their store, specifically during the payment process. One time I was making a purchase on ebay, I was routed to the sellers ecommerce website (not on ebay, their own url) and I was given the option to add additional items to my order before checkout.

Is there a specific name to this type of process, and is there an open API that I could tap into if I wanted to code this myself?

I believe eBay offer API access , that allows purchase details retrieval and token passing and thus 3rd party checking out.

It's not free though..

More info can be found here

I think its called upselling. ;)

Seriously, some third party services like ChannelAdvisor and Andale have this capability. I believe there are specific eBay rules about not allowing Google Checkout for transactions that contain eBay items.

Yeah it looks like most API calls are free, but 3rd party checkout is $5K/year.
