PayPal has added a 'Confirm your email address' step to their 'Recommended Steps for Merchants' link on their homepage. Unfortunately, the link does nothing except return you to their homepage.

In the meantime, I have not received an order on my site site noon EST today (Saturday), because every Website Payments Pro authorization is being declined, with an error, "A confirmed email is required to make this API call."

Why on earth did PayPal add this new requirement to their Website Payments Pro API, not tell anyone about it, and implement it on Saturday, when no one is answering the phone in San Jose?

Calls to their Support Center are given the, "we're not aware of any problems" reply, and they are unaware of the new "Confirm your email address" link.

How can I trust them with my money when they pull stunts like this?

We are getting errors as well. The transactions would be processed but somehow our shopping cart is not notified correctly, so that it is not registered.

Sorry this is happening to ya'll but we have been saying for a long long time don't put all your eggs in one basket.

Get set up now to take google checkout and other credit cards from another source.

Paypal is ok for a backup that is all at least this way if there is an error with paypal you can contact the customer and do a charge from another source.

I do have Google Checkout, but my customers prefer my checkout system, which is very nice IMHO.

GC is decent, but it's not the killer service that everyone raves about. I see less than 5% of my orders come thru GC.

We techies love/trust/worship Google, but customers like my mom? She could care less, and bouncing between URI's during the checkout process (PayPal falls in this category, along with GC) is not viewed as a desirable feature.

Is the problem still occurring?

If you still have not confirmed your email address, you should be able to do so via one of the folowing methods:

a. Locate the email you received when you first created your PayPal account, and click on the link within it to confirm your email address.

b. Log in to your PayPal account, and click on the email that is listed just below your name or company name. This will take you to a page listing all of the email addresses on your account (you probably will just have 1 in the list). Make sure your Primary email address is selected, then click the Confirm button. This should take you to a page where you can re-send the confirmation email and/or enter the confirmation code from your email.

It's a bug on PayPal's side. I've had my account for five years, and doubt I could locate that email. And you cannot reconfirm already-confirmed addresses. But thanks for the help.

Their Friday software update really messed things up, then they promptly took a three day weekend. There were people answering the phones this weekend, and all they can do is apologize "for the inconvenience".

My problem is completely different to jwolthuis's. Payments were processed and charged but our shopping cart was not notified. Therefore there was actually no loss of earnings on our part.

Our problem seemed to have started at around the same time as jwolthuis. I am working on the assumption that there is some incompatibility with our shopping cart system (litecommerce ver 1.3)

I am wondering whether anybody else is having problems with PayPal for the past few days.
