Hi,

If I have a ecommerce site at example.com, and my business name is AcmeInc, from what I understand AcmeInc will show up on the customers credit card statement correct? And as a result having a different name on the CC and URL could lead to chargebacks since the customer might not understand the charge.

I guess I should setup a different business and setup DBA's for my ecommerce site (its called a corporation in canada)

Get your website name on the CC statement. It should be fairly easy to do with the help of your merchant account people. It will prevent a lot of headaches in the future (chargebacks, people calling and wondering what the charge is, etc.)

What (business) name did you tell the merchant account provider?

I'm still researching on a merchant provider at the moment, but for sure my business name and URL will be different.

Have your business name in the footer. Starting on the checkout pages, make sure you have your business name there.

When sending out a receipt, make sure you have your business name on it - and maybe even in the subject like: Order # 1111 from MY DBA

The more places you have it, the less of a chance that you will have problems.

AffiliateDreamer, read the application attentively. There is a field named “merchant description”. Put there whatever you want. Technically there are some rules but really you can put anything helping customers to recognize you. I prefer website URLs and customer support phone number. You may need to drop WWW because you have only 32 symbols limit (but I’m not sure about the limit).
Look at you credit card statements. People have their phone numbers as a part of merchant description. They don’t have such DBAs :)
