Google Checkout started a new promotion. Its a $10 sign up bonus for new Google Checkout buyers.

As best as I understand, there is no there a upper order total requirement to use the $10 sign-up bonus. You can use it with any merchant that accepts Google Checkout.

The only requirements are:

1) buyer has to be a new buyer to Google Checkout
2) sign up by Feb 15, 2007
3) make a purchase by March 31, 2007

The link states that the $10 bonus is only valid at participating stores. They have a link to a list of those stores.

Yeah, its not very clear is it? After you sign up for an account there is a bigger list of stores. Any retailer that accepts Google Checkout as a payment option will be eligible. This promotion is a discount Google provides, so the buyer does not see the bonus during the checkout process. Once you have made payment, you'll see it in your purchase history. Personally, I would like to see the bonus as a line item before an order is finalized.

Anyway, take a look at the signup welcome page with a bigger list of vendors:

It would probably take putting something in the shopping cart code, to have it show at checkout, which relies on the merchant taking it down on time when the promotion ends. It sounds like the way Google is doing it, it's something like how a rebate works after purchases are made.

That's not accurate. There are hundreds of websites supporting Google Checkout, but only the largest ones (listed in the link you provided) are "eligible".

My site has supported Google Checkout since it's introduction in June, I have the "shopping cart" icon on all of my AdWords ads and Froogle listings, yet I'm small potatoes, and didn't make the eligibility list.

I've had a number of customers try to use their $10 bonus at my site, only to find out it doesn't work. Then I get the angry phone call, like it's my fault.

Yep, you're absolutely right and I'm completely wrong. Got a letter from Google Checkout today that confirms it.
