Web Server Certificate with EV

These cost $900/year and will turn on a green bar from Microsoft in Explorer 7.0 to make customers feel like your site is legitimate - no longer will the padlock make people feel secure - too much money I say but I may be forced to buy because customers will be scared away otherwise...

I suspect not.

My intincts tell MS are only cashing in, teh best way to secure a customer is to be easily contactable by all means possible.

Exactly - they are just cashing in - I'll wait to see exactly what it looks like when they turn on next month - if it's large and easy to see by customers I will pay. Right now only corporations can use this - I'll be ok but they won't even accept LLCs and Sole Proprietorships. I wonder why? They would make a ton more cash.

They will accept LLC's. Here's a related thread:

I can't see this being a deal breaker with most customers. I don't believe that most customers even look for the padlock. I had only ONE customer tell me my sites were not secure since he did not see the padlock. He had that morning upgraded to IE7 and had no clue they moved it.

This is just MS trying to cash in. My father sent me a press release of this issue written by a staff writer on a news site that shall not be named - let's just say that they were trying to use scare tactics all throughout the release, telling how if you don't use the seal customers will be too scared to purchase and you will be labled as a risky store.

I have the money for a seal but refuse to pay it. I figure that I'll sit back for a couple of months and see if this really turns into a problem.

Gotta love Microsoft.
