I have always had E-Commerce sites with less that 20 products and it was easy to design around this.

For the next one im selling lots of small items.

They are much the same except colour shape etc.

Now alot of sites just list on the right hand side in basic font and it looks messy. ie.

widget b (13)
widget a (34)
widget f (77)

Has anybody got any tips on how to set this up so that it does not look messy.

Cheers

We have 154 items all the same size and shape, but with different wording.
We list the wording in two columns and show only 5 images of the product. The user clicks on the wording they want.

Some sort of decision tree..

Select shape...
Select color...

Then show the appropriate choices.

I found that too many similar choices to be counter productive. There are people out there that still have dial up access. Take your page loading times into consideration.
